What is an Appointment Status?
Appointment statuses are labels or indicators that represent the current state or stage of an appointment. These statuses help users and systems track and manage appointments more effectively. Each status typically has specific implications for the appointment, such as whether it's confirmed, canceled, or completed.
Default Statuses
Default status is the initial status assigned to an appointment when it is created unless specified otherwise. It serves as the standard or typical status for a new appointment, such as "Pending" or "Scheduled," until the user or system updates it to a different status, such as "Confirmed," "Cancelled," or "Completed." (If an appointment is in a "default" status it cannot be deleted.)
When creating your workspace, standard statuses are set for your appointments, however, these statuses can always be changed to whatever names work best for your business.
Properties of Statuses
Statuses help organize appointments, facilitate communication, improve efficiency, and prevent scheduling conflicts. The properties that can be applied to each status include;
- Category - Determines what action the named status provides for the appointment. For example, a "confirmed" appointment can be assigned to the "accepted" category.
- Locked - Once an appointment is assigned to a locked status, it cannot be changed; to override the lock, an administrator has permission to do so. If you want a status to be unchangeable, you will activate the lock.
- Consumes Availability - When this status is active (defaulted to "on"), the appointment occupies your calendar. If it's turned off, the appointment won't take up space and won't show on your calendar (usually applied to canceled appointments).
- Default - If a status isn't provided when an appointment is created, it will be assigned the default status, which cannot be deleted.
